Hi %%First Name%% Buzzmedia Bulletin returns with more of my observations on online marketing, and hopefully you'll find some of them useful to your business. In this email: - Social Media Predictions for Brands - Exclusive interview with P1 COO Idham Nawawi - Social Media Marketing Workshop - Buzzworthy News Social Media Predictions for Brands in MalaysiaFollowing up from last month's social media predictoins, this time around I asked my friends in major brands and agencies to contribute their insights. I received the views from front-line marketers in AirAsia, Packet One, Tune Hotels, Sunway University College and agencies like Edelman, Text100 and Integricity.Based on responses from the panel, I concluded that:
Exclusive interview with P1 COO Idham Nawawi![]() I come across many companies who have dipped their toe in social media but then don't know what to do next. "We started a Facebook page, but we can't seem to get any fans," is a common lament. The reason many brands find themselves in this situation is because they have not managed to get into a social media-friendly culture, or social media mindset. P1 is a company who doesn't only have the mindset, but have successfully integrated social media into their company culture. This not only allows them to communicate quicker, but also more effectively as they communicate in their customers' preferred channel and it also humanises the brand. P1 is definitely a front runner when it comes to customer-centric Malaysian brands. Watch the interview to learn about how P1 cultivates a social media-friendly culture and how they engage their customers. Feel free to also share the interview with your friends. Social Media Marketing Workshop - in conjunction with New Straits Times I'm very proud and pleased to announce that I will be conducting a workshop on Social Media Marketing in conjunction with the NIE Unit of New Straits Times. In a nutshell, the workshop will teach participants... "Everything You Need To Know About Using Free Social Media Tools To Get More Customers And Kick Start Your Online Marketing" The NST's support of my workshop is a big boost for me, but also guarantees that the workshop content is first rate - my reputation depends on it! Think of it as a 'best of' list that I've filtered for you.Edelman Trust Barometer 2010: Consumers Trust Their Friends Less (AdAge) - Boy the reaction to this story was quite intense! Social media skeptics were quick to say that social media marketing doesn't work. However, a closer reading of the study results show that consumers have learned to tune out buzz and hype from companies, even if they are relayed through their friends. Takeaway - brands have to work harder at engaging their customers. Rais comment has Net users boiling, creates global sensation (The Star) - Information, Communications, Culture and Arts Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim made an off-handed remark that set Malaysian Twitter users and bloggers off, causing a trending topic on Twitter. The takeaway is that user generated and social media is totally mainstream with Malaysian internet users. It's become part of the way we communicate now, just like the phone. If you don't understand it and pooh-pooh social media, you will draw the ire of consumers. Twitter in Asia: Total Users, by Country (GreyReview) - Fellow social media observer and SMCkl colleague Lim Yung Hui (aka @zhiQ) did some sleuthing and uncovers some numbers of Twitter users in Malaysia. "This is far, far, far more than my previous estimate of Twitter population in Malaysia," he says. 5 Potential Business Uses for the iPad (OPEN Forum) - Unless you've been living under a rock, you would have heard of Apple's latest gadget, the iPad. While it's still too early to tell whether the iPad will be a success, many have started thinking of how it could be used as a tool in small business. What do you think? What Buzzmedia is up to this month In addition to the workshop, I'm still working on my Facebook guide. It's overdue, but I wanted to delay it because Facebook was going to update its design (again!) and didn't want to re-do the screenshots.
